“We are thrilled with the mobile site that ThoughtWorks designed and implemented for Democracy Now! It will improve our ability to connect with our growing audience base via mobile devices,” said Democracy Now! General Manager, Julie Crosby.
Democracy Now! is pioneering the largest public media collaboration in the U.S. and is now broadcast on more than 950 stations, including Pacifica, NPR, community, and college radio; public access, PBS and satellite television; and the internet. The new mobile site delivers Democracy Now! daily news using HTML5 and Ruby on Rails 3 and incorporates innovative video streaming technology from DVLABS. For WebKit supported devices, iPhone, Android and Blackberry, Democracy Now! is available for reading, listening and watching in a mobile-friendly format and news content can even be downloaded for offline reading.
“The role of independent news organizations is vital to our society and we are pleased to work with Democracy Now! to ensure their content is accessible via mobile devices with the highest quality,” said Craig Gorsline, ThoughtWorks’ managing director for the Americas. “With the mobile site live, we have now opened up the source code to select software practitioners that would like to contribute to the continued development of the site.”
